"Give me a stock clerk with a goal and I'll give you a
man who will make history. Give me a man with no
goals and I'll give you a stock clerk."

He who works his land will have abundant food, but the
one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.
Proverbs 28:19

Every day and almost anywhere we turn there seems
to be someone telling about a great business
opportunity. It may be low key or accompanied by a lot
of hype, but the theme is always the same - an easy
way to make a lot of money. They come as a variety of
things - a new business venture, new product line,
special miracle equipment, or a super investment plan.
In fact, there are so many opportunities it can become
quite a distraction. How do we deal with all this and be
sure that we get in on the right thing?
Helping to Build Thriving Businesses - God's Way
What is an entrepreneur? According to Webster's
New World Dictionary, it is "a person who
organizes and manages a business undertaking,
assuming the risk for the sake of profit."(Webster's
New World Dictionary of the English Language,
College Edition, World Publishing Company) The
current popular view often provides a little more
color to this description. Some include adjectives
like: independent, self confident (even arrogant),
loner, innovative, motivated, self-starter, profit
oriented, cunning, shrewd, and others.

How does this compare with the Christian
entrepreneur? Let's take a look at Webster's
definition in a Biblical light.

Character Matters
We all know at least one person we think about
when good character is mentioned. In describing
their character we might use words like - faithful,
honest, diligent, trustworthy, reliable, having
integrity.

Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a
faithful man who can find? Proverbs 20:6

We all also know of someone whose career,
ministry, public office and/or family has been
destroyed because of compromise. And once
someone compromises in one area, it is difficult to
trust that they will not do so in other areas. All too
often, we compromise in order to gain something
and lose more in the end.

The only way to develop good character is through
a reliance on God and commitment to seeking first
the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. It is
also critical to remember:

Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good
character." I Corinthians 15:33

Is the government operating under devine
authority or as (in place of) devine authority?

Where the people fear the government, that is
tyranny. Where the government fears the people,
there is liberty.
